The many Christian Reformed churches in the Eastern United States span from coast to coast, from small towns in Maine to the skyscrapers of Manhattan to the tip of southern Florida. For that reason, it is critical that pastors and congregations have a local person to turn to for coaching, resourcing, and support. And that’s where the Home Missions Eastern U.S. team comes in. “We want to be people on the ground for churches to turn to in their region,” says Drew Angus, who has led the team since 2005.
Angus’ region is one of North America’s largest, including the largest city in the country, New York. The team serves 41 established churches, 24 emerging churches, and two campus ministries. All of these ministries serve many different multi-ethnic communities.
Drew says his passion is keeping all CRC congregations, from decades-old established churches to brand new church plants, focused on mission. He also believes the Lord is working through his team. “The people I am privileged to work on teams with are fantastic! They are talented folks and, despite being busy with their own ministries and jobs, they keep on sacrificially giving themselves to the work of the CRC in the entire region,” says Angus. “The team brings a presence that represents Christ to this region,a presence that is gospel-focused and leans on the Holy Spirit,” he says.
His vision for the region is seeing multiplication of missional clusters and a strategy for church planting that starts from the ground up. “We want to continue to raise up, recruit, and deploy leaders for new churches,” he says. He also envisions local partnerships giving birth to new campus ministries. “We have had a lot of success with collaborative partnerships, and we’re well-positioned to start new campus ministries. Our youth, united with Christ, are the future and hope of the church and the world.”

GLIMPSES OF GOD AT WORK
By Grace Alone is a church plant in urban Philadelphia, one of many new multicultural churches in the Home Missions Eastern U.S. region. Pastor Gabriel Wang-Herrera shares the following testimony from a woman in the church:
“I just want to share this testimony with you from one of the people that God has brought to us,” he says. “She’s been with us for about 2 1/2 years and it’s been a long journey. God has transformed her life. My prayer is that we all would have many more like her in our congregation. Here is her story, . . . Read More
