Japan Earthquake Recovery (2012)
On March 11, 2011, a magnitude 9 earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of Japan, generating a massive tsunami that destroyed homes, ruined cities, inundated farmland, and crippled a nuclear power plant. Almost 20,000 people lost their lives. The sociological as well as physical landscape of the country was forever altered. While the loss of life and destruction of infrastructure caused by this disaster is immense and tragic, God has been at work through the Church, bringing healing, restoration, and hope to a nation left reeling in the wake of catastrophe. |
