Health & Renewal Grants

 
Health & Renewal (HR) Grants encourage congregations to think creatively about how they can nurture the health of their congregation and/or how they can impact the community in which they minister. Submitting a grant application doesn't mean a congregation is unhealthy. Not at all! It means that the church wants to establish new ministry or to refresh existing ministry. The church is seeking to foster health within the congregation in a way that is uniquely suited to their ministry setting. Therefore, no two projects are the same.

Projects funded to date have been for: community gardens, leadership training, youth ministry, intergenerational ministry, worship, outreach, play programs, assessment, programming for adults, and the list goes on.

Checking out the HR Grants awarded should stimulate some ideas. 

Almost all CRC churches with 150 active, adult professing members or less are eligible for a grant. There are some requirements that need to be met. For all the details on the grants, have a look at the Overview of the Grant.

To date, 168 HR Grants have been awarded to 145 churches (25 in Canada and 120 in the US).  Nearly $1.2 million in grant funds have been distributed since the first grants were awarded in July 2007.

The maximum grant awarded is $5,000. There’s the possibility of an additional $1,000 if an SCE coach is requested to walk alongside the ministry leaders as they engage in the grant project.

Applications are accepted for the June 1 and December 1 deadlines. Churches are strongly encouraged to contact the SCE office with their project idea well before the deadline to see if they’re on track. Submitting a draft proposal at least two weeks before the due date allows some back and forth between the church and the SCE office. This helps refine the application before the due date. Grants are announced by August 1 and February 1. HR projects may not begin until after these dates.
